SESSION OVERVIEW

Honoring LGBTQ+ Intersectionality: An Experiential Approach to Allyship
This workshop will provide a space for participants to explore historical and current gender sociopolitics, personal gender perspectives, and how these paradigms influence individual LGBTQ+ allyship and the LGBTQ+ community. Each participant will be provided with an opportunity to create an art piece that tells the story of their own gender and ally experience; participants will be encouraged through self-discovery and mini lectures to explore ways in which they can continue to grow their current allyship. During this workshop, the facilitators will also provide a background on: •Non-binary and binary lexicon and pronouns •The importance of acknowledging intersectionality and personal culture when honoring a person's gender identity, expression, and attractions •Historical and current perspectives of binary and non-binary systems and influence on cultural and legal perspectives/policies •Exploration of our own gender and ally stories to determine how we can become more empathetic and effective in LGBTQ+ allyship •How to adapt the art activity used in the workshop for use with clients and fellow allies to build a safe and affirming space to share about each other.
