How do we create spaces that truly uplift and affirm every LGBTQ+ individual? This presentation explores the power of identity, resilience, and collective action in moving beyond rhetoric and toward real change. Through storytelling, reflection, and historical context, we will examine what it means to build a world where LGBTQ+ individuals are not just accepted but empowered to thrive. The presentation will begin with a compelling monologue that delves into identity, societal norms, and resistance, drawing inspiration from historic changemakers such as Maya Angelou, James Baldwin, and Angela Davis. Their words and legacies provide a foundation for understanding how affirmation and advocacy intersect. From there, we will explore key questions: What does an affirming community look like, and how can we actively create it? How do we empower youth to embrace their authentic selves? And most importantly, how can we move beyond performative allyship to take meaningful, lasting action? This is more than just a conversation—it is a call to action. By deepening our understanding and commitment, we can build a future where every LGBTQ+ identity is valued, uplifted, and supported. Together, we have the power to turn words into action and create lasting change.

Jasmine McDonald has been a dedicated member of Saving Innocence since 2014 and currently serves as the Assistant Clinical Director. In this vital role, she oversees a team of advocates who respond to crises, offering crucial victim-witness support and intensive case management for individuals affected by commercial sexual exploitation and trafficking. Driven by her passion for community service, she continued her education at the University of Southern California, earning a Master's in Social Work. Jasmine is now ambitiously pursuing her license to become a Clinical Social Worker, aiming to provide even deeper support to vulnerable populations and to foster professional growth through therapy and development programs. Personally, Jasmine is a proud wife and mother of three wildly ambitious humans. Her children are her greatest inspiration, fueling her dedication to supporting marginalized populations. Jasmine loves practicing self-care by spending quality time with her family and staying active through fitness and sports. Her commitment to both her family and her work reflects her deep passion for making a difference in the lives of others.
