Brian Olivas
Brian Olivas has a passion for the advocacy of mental health access in the LGBTQ+ population due to the marginalization they face. They have brought their passion to serve the LGBTQ+ clients, as well as the non-LGBTQ+ clients, at Penny Lane. They enjoy using literature as a tool to gain cultural competence of other populations and enjoy integrating different literary metaphors into their treatment with clients. Brian is excited to continue working towards their full licensure as a prospective LMFT and LPCC. They are also excited to continue using their developing knowledge to help the clients at Penny Lane.
SESSION OVERVIEW
Connecting to Ourselves and as a Community
The presentation will begin with a benefit finding exercise. We are going to look at different points of the story and think of the benefit that he gained and how times of adversity led him to live a life of purpose and advocacy. Each individual at the training will be walked through the exercise. This has been a year of setbacks for LGBTQ+ individuals but collectively the community will come back stronger.
